Competition Rules 2011/2012

 
 
General Rules
 
1.      Competitions are open to all fully paid up members of the Bridgnorth & District Camera Club.
2.      Each print entered must display the entrant’s name and a title for the image on the back of the mount.
3.      In any competition, each entrance may enter a maximum of 4 images per category unless otherwise stated.
4.      Entries must conform to the following size rules:
 
Prints: The mount must be no more than 20 x 16 inches (400 x 500mm). There is no maximum or minimum limit to the size of the print within this mount. (Panoramic prints may be entered but may not be displayed in external competitions due to size restrictions).
Projected Images: The maximum size of the image should be 1024 pixels wide x 768 pixels high for optimum projection (see additional instruction sheet for further information).
 
5. There are to be two classes, Advanced for those who have reached an advanced level of competence, and Intermediate for all other entrants. The standard of each new member with regards to which class they shall compete in shall be determined by the Committee or the Competition Secretary prior to submission of their first competition entry. The Committee reserves the right to determine in which class a member shall be placed. Their decision shall be final.
6. The Committee reserves the right to exclude any image which is felt to be inappropriate.
 
Monthly Competitions
 
1.      Images may be entered as prints or projected images. Should you wish to submit a slide you may pass it to the Competition Secretary to be scanned to the computer. It will then be shown with the projected images.
2.      The titles of all images to be entered must be passed to the Competition Secretary at least one week before the competition. Projected Images must also be given to the Competition Secretary along with their titles one week before the competition. Late entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the Competition Secretary.
3.      Images entered will be shown as one category combining colour and monochrome images.
4.      The competitions will be judged by Federation judges who will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd places as well as Highly Commended and Commended as they see fit.
5.      Points will be awarded to both Intermediate and Advanced classes thus, 1st = 6 points, 2nd = 5 points, 3rd = 4 points, Highly Com. = 3 points, Com. = 2 points and 1 point to all others entered. These will then be totaled up over the course of the season to find the member with the highest overall score across both classes. This member will be presented with the Photographer of the Year (POTY) trophy.
6.      All entries that are awarded 1st, 2nd or 3rd cannot be entered again in a monthly competition.
7.      All other entries may be entered once more in a monthly competition.
 
3 Cups Competition
 
This competition is open to all Club members, irrespective of which class they are placed in. Submitted entries must not have been entered in previous Club Annual Exhibitions but may be entered in subsequent Annual Exhibitions if desired (e.g. images from last year’s Annual Exhibition may not be entered into the 3 Cups competition, but those entered in the 3 Cups competition may be entered into the Annual Exhibition this year or if not, then next year).
 
 
The Curwen Cup: Monochrome prints. Subject matter of the author’s choice.
The Willetts Cup:  Projected Images. Subject matter of the author’s choice but must not have been entered into any previous  competition, i.e. must be completely new work.
The Spilsbury Cup: Colour Prints. Subject matter of the author’s choice.
 
The Annual Competition and Exhibition
 
1.      Judging will be carried out by Federation judges over two evenings - One evening will comprise Projected Images (Section 1) and the other, prints (Section 2).
2.      Any image in Section 1 will be eligible for the Premier Projected Image Award respectively. Also any image from Section 2 will be eligible for the Premier Print Award. These will be decided by the judge.
3.      Entries submitted must not have been entered into any other Club Annual Exhibitions, but those entered into monthly or 3 Cups competitions may be used.
4.      All trophies awarded will be held for approximately 1 year and must be cleaned and handed in at the advised time to enable the engraving process before they are presented the following year.
5.      Members may be promoted or demoted from the Intermediate/Advanced classes respectively, by the direction of the committee.
 
Section 1:
Cup 1 - Tomkins Cup - Projected Images Open to all Club members, any subject, colour or monochrome images.
Cup 2 - Bernard Danks Trophy - Digitally Enhanced Projected Image Open to all Club members, any subject, colour or monochrome images, must be digitally enhanced in some way.
 
Section 2:
Cup 1 - Pictorial Advanced Monochrome Print Advanced class only, any subject, monochrome images.
Cup 2 - Pictorial Intermediate Monochrome Print Intermediate class only, any subject, monochrome images.
Cup 3 - Human Portrait Print Open to all Club members, human portraits only, colour or monochrome images.
Cup 4 - EC Hayes Print Trophy Open to all Club members, landscape or seascape, colour or monochrome images.
Cup 5 - Les Downes Trophy - Advanced Colour Print Advanced class only, any subject, colour images.
Cup 6 - Intermediate Colour Print Intermediate class only, any subject, colour images.
 
Other In-House Competitions
 
There are to be various other competitions which will be judged by club members by way of a voting system. Members may not vote for their own image.
These competitions may comprise:
'Panel of Three' - Set of 3 prints having the same pictorial theme, displayed together, must have distinct left, centre and right panels with the order marked on the back of the mount. Three photographs may be entered on one mount, of the standard 20" x 16" size but still maintain the subjects having a left - centre - right pictorial theme.  Please ask if you are not entirely sure.
Panoramic - wide view shots of any subject (although landscapes are typical of this), prints may be any size.
Still life - studio shots of a variety of “still life” subjects under different lighting conditions.
Nature - you may enter any photograph pertaining to natural history, fauna and flora from the UK or World will be accepted but must be genuine, may be cropped and levels corrected but un-manipulated. No landscapes accepted.
All the above can be Print or PI, except for the 'Panel of Three' which is print only.
 
There is also the Chairman’s Challenge Cup which has an annual theme and which will be judged by the Club Chairman. Prints need only to be handed to the Comp. Sec. on the evening of the Challenge Cup. Titles are not required beforehand in this competition.
 
Inter-Club Battles
 
Prints and Projected Image entries in battles will be chosen by the Competition Secretary, Chairman or Vice Chairman. Members will be advised in advance if or when different or further images are required for selection.
